...of doggies and diapers

Today started off with a bang. Desoto needed to be taken to the vet. The poor baby was listless and whiney. Why me? you ask…well, apart from being birth-mom (I bought vee that dog as a belated b’day gift) and play mate, I also have the added privilege of being secondary care-giver..(yea, I watch oprah too you know) So off to the vet we went little dachshund and I, until, in the car he started with those dry heaves that prelude the actual spewing forth of breakfast. After another fifteen minutes of frenzied “stop and go” action, it turned out, blessedly, that he only had the hiccups, but the fear of what might have transpired was enough to get me up and racing. Dent-in-the-pocket-formerly-known-as-Desoto sure managed to run up a huge bill at the vet. Routine de-worming, paw nail clipping, new doggie food (baby’s bored of pedigree puppy), anti-fungal shampoo (..great smell and easy on their eyes) and other sundry….oh the list is endless. I sure as hell managed to give Varsha a gift that keeps on giving her bills! Kinda makes me rethink the whole “having a baby” thingy that I’m so keen on every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Maybe when “fabulous coozhin nish-pish” decides to go-forth-and-multiply, I could maybe live vicariously on that front as well..(she’s already doing her bit, what with the sex and all). I’m sure I’ll make an amazing god-aunt. No really. I would. In all probability , I’ll be the “hip” aunt that hands out the condoms and gives my niece (I’m pushing for a girl) cash on her birthdays (..wish I’d had one of those!!) She’ll run to me the first time she runs away from home, run to me with her boy troubles and I’d give her a patient hearing and a shoulder to cry on. Siiiigh! I love babies…there’s something about the whole “Johnson’s baby powder smell” that gets me all soppy and maternal these days. Maybe there is a biological clock after all. Suddenly (and by that I mean over the past couple of months) I find myself at this weird juncture where stretch marks and labour pains don’t seem as scary as they once did. Brrrrrrrrr (shaking myself out of reverie) Maybe I need to go spend some more time with Varsha’s dogs and have them pee on my shoes or something. I’m talking crazy!!!!

On a brighter note, Nish-pish gets into town today. So far her flight’s been delayed for an entire hour..(it’s a lot when you’re counting the seconds, trust me!). Also, if I’m not blogging for a while, you know I’m probably just having too much fun to be bothered! Cheers!
